Our galaxy, the Milky Way, is a barred spiral galaxy containing billions of stars, planets, and other celestial objects. It spans about 100,000 light-years in diameter. The Sun is located in one of its spiral arms, about 27,000 light-years from the galactic center. The Milky Way is part of the Local Group, which includes several other galaxies. It's a dynamic system with ongoing star formation, and its structure is shaped by gravity and dark matter. The study of our galaxy helps us understand the broader cosmos and our place in it.
